A renowned 20th century illustrator, Frank Frazetta is best known for his extravagant science fiction works and decadent fantasy paintings. Yet his prolific vision was also suited to stylized realism as demonstrated in the personal piece titled By Dawn’s Early Light. In this serene scene, a lighthearted woman throws off her red robe to soak in glorious sunshine. She smiles, carefree, at the simplest pleasures in life — a cool breeze, a tranquil pond, and a soft blue sky filled with fluffy clouds. Nothing exists outside of this jubilant moment.

Inspired by the style of neo-classical American painter Maxfield Parrish, the original watercolor was created in 1963 and later published in Testament: The Life and Art of Frank Frazetta (2001).
